Sleep Apnea Syndrome investigations between national and international private dental offices and hospitals in collaboration with Orthoapnea, S. L.
Orthoapnea is running the first international trial project about security and efficiency of the new adjustable mandibular advancement device Orthoapnea in patients with mild to moderate Sleep Apnea. This pathology is characterized by the presence of air flow obstructions in the upper airways. These cause for several seconds laboured breathings periods, resulting in apnea symptoms like fatigue, drowsiness and tiredness during the day, exerting an immense negative influence on quality of life of patients.
In Spain three different hospitals are participating in this project: The University Hospital “Virgen de la Victoria” in Málaga (responsible: Dr. Mercedes Martín Romero); The Vall d’Hebron Hospital (Dr. Javier Vila Martín) in Barcelona and The University Clinic Hospital in Salamanca (Dr. Amparo Rosa Sánchez Serrano).
Besides, there are several simultaneous trial collaborations in the U.K., Italy, the Netherlands and Australia, coordinated by prestigious professionals like Dr. Roy Dookun (board member of the European Academy of Dental Sleep medicine, president of the British Society of Dental Sleep Medicine ), Dr. José Ceballos (Founding member and vice president of the Spanish association of dental sleep medicine (SEMODS) and other treatment experts like Dr. Ramesh Balasubramaniam (Australia), Dr. Franco Sacchi (Italy) and Dr. Bas J. Njio (the Netherlands).
According to the analysis of the first results, the Orthoapnea device achieves significant reductions of apnea-hypopnea and snoring data. These scientific results underline that the Orthoapnea MRD treatment is a recommended therapeutic option for this disease.
