APPs HELP YOU TO SLEEP BETTER

The Smartphones’s age has not only served to entertain and connect us through technology. Now, in our mobile phones we can find a wide variety of tools or applications, also known as APPs.

These APPs are entertainment applications, but they also offer a solution for everything that we need. They are categorized into different themes and we can acquire them for free or by paying. We can find games, books, sports, medicine…and others, that are more specific and more and more original.

APPs OF SLEEP

The specialization of APPs has reached the point where we can find more and more specialized applications that help us to sleep, to relax the mind or advise us on what are the healthiest habits to improve sleep quality.

In general, these applications have typical functions like clock or alarm clock, but they also have other applications. For example, Pzizz is an APP that helps you to fall asleep faster playing relaxing sounds and voices. Others such as Smart Sleep Cycle or Smart Alarm Clock provide us the alarm function with special features: depend on the stage of sleep where we are and the time when we wake up this APP indicates the most suitable time to avoid drowsiness.

Other applications are based on playing soothing sounds helping us to wake up, for example Napbot, Sleep Machine, Ambiance, Visulax Sleep Aid, White Noise, Pure Sleep AmbiScience or Nature Sounds. Some of these can create individualized programs to listen to our favourite music sounds.

Some APPs with similar characteristics as Bedphones Music Controller incorporate a music player that lets you listen to your favourite songs. This application turns off the music when it detects that you have fallen asleep depending on the movements of your body.

Other applications are based on analyzing the sleep of the bed’s companions who tends to snore, like for example the Snoring U, that controls the snorer’s respiration, advising him/her when the normal sound is exceeded.

Recently it was published Dream:On, an application that pretend to influence in the person’s dream by playing different sounds that induce sleep. So, the sounds emitted by the application can “control” the development of sleep to make it enjoyable.

The application needs a mobile phone under the mattress and it records the body movements during the night, so, depending on these, the application plays sounds or not.

But the supply of products is not only limited to improve quality of sleep. We can also find applications that treat sleep disorders, such as the APP ¡A dormir! by Eduard Estivill. It is based on his book “Sleep, my child: how to fix the problem of childhood insomnia” which teaches parents the methodology of sleep habits in children. Another example is SleepCare that plays the sounds of children during the night detecting the intensity levels as a walkie-talkie. It plays songs or the parent’s voices to comfort the baby. Other applications even reproduce images that are displayed in the room as a projector.

The specialization of these applications is becoming so high that researchers want to create APPs that induce in a lucid dreaming, so, the dream would be conscious and we would be able to control our own dream.

It seams to be that we approach more and more the fiction films. Would we be able to beam us someday into the dream of another person?
